The owners of KT's Coaches of Kendal own a small collection of Classic Coaches dating from the early 1980's.
Both coaches currently in the collection are Leyland Tiger Plaxton Bodied coaches - the last of the truly British Built Coaches. In the 1970's most coaches on Britain's roads would have been built either in Blackpool (Duple) or Scarborough (Plaxton) featuring AEC, Leyland, Bedford or Ford Chassis. By the late 1980's, AEC, Bedford and Ford had ceased production and Leyland were fitting Cummins engines. Duple had been bought by Plaxton and now, in 2015 Plaxton are the only British Coach Builder and they rely on European Chassis such as Volvo and Scania.
1982 - Leyland Tiger 245 Plaxton Supreme V
This Leyland Tiger was bought by Henleys Bus Services Ltd of Abertillery in the Summer of 1982. They operated this stunning coach right up until the end of December 2014 when we bought it. Chris drove it from Abertillery to our base at Crooklands in just over 4 hours. It is a credit to it's former owners. It has an 11 Metre Plaxton Supreme V body with 51 seats.
1984 - Leyland Tiger 245 Plaxton Paramount 3500
This Tiger has had a more varied life eventually spending a good number of years at Coopers of Killamarsh, Sheffield, who's livery it is still painted. We bought it from our good friend, Mark Brook of Yelloway Coaches of Chadderton in October 2013. This Tiger is fitted with one of the first Plaxton Paramount 3500 bodies, featuring 49 reclining seats a toilet and TV and Video - something of a feature in 1984! This coach is currently at Blackpool Coach Services for extensive refurbishment and will be painted into the same livery as F W Stainton & Son's 1983 Plaxton Paramount 3500. Watch this space!
